Aviation Upgrade with New Automated Weather Observing System at Harriet Alexander Field Airport (KANK), Colorado

Salida, Colorado, January 11th, 2024 - Harriet Alexander Field Airport in Colorado has recently completed a significant technological enhancement with the installation of a Mesotech Airport Weather Advisor Automated Weather Observing System (AWOS) IIIPT. This state-of-the-art weather system was commissioned by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on January 11th, 2024. Mesotech International, Inc., in partnership with PRO Electrical Contractors inc., completed the installation and commissioning. 

The newly installed AWOS IIIPT marks a significant leap in aviation safety and efficiency, offering pilots instant access to crucial weather data via radio, telephone, or internet. Mesotech’s team of dedicated engineers ensures consistent, year-round system performance through continuous remote monitoring. Pilots and aviation enthusiasts can now obtain real-time weather information from Harriet Alexander Field Airport through the user-friendly web application, AWOS Live, accessible at KANK.AWOS.LIVE

The Salida Airport at Harriet Alexander Field is equipped with a 7,348-foot runway. The airport elevation is at 7,523 feet located at the base of the Colligate Peaks in Chaffee County, Colorado. This airport services private, military, firefighting, freight, air ambulance and charter aircraft of all sizes. The new AWOS system reflects the airport’s unwavering commitment to safety and maintaining superior operational standards. This technology equips pilots with the latest weather insights, crucial for effective flight planning and safe flight operations.
