New AWOS installation at Elk City Regional Business Airport (KELK) boosts aviation safety with up-to-the-second weather reports

Elk City, Oklahoma (August 9, 2022)Pappas Technologies Inc. installed and commissioned a Mesotech Airport Weather Advisor® AWOS-3PT Automated Weather Observing System (AWOS) at Elk City Regional Business Airport (KELK) in Elk City, Oklahoma on August 9, 2022. Airport Weather Advisor® is the flagship product of Mesotech International, Inc, a Sacramento, California based manufacturer of meteorological instrumentation systems. The AWOS supports aviation safety by providing up to the minute weather reports to pilots via radio, telephone, and the internet.    

The new Airport Weather Advisor® installation at the Elk City Regional Business Airport replaces an obsolete system and brings new capabilities to the airport. The installation was completed by Pappas Technologies Inc. and Texas AWOS Service LLC of Atlanta, TX. The AWOS-3PT system at KELK features a live data feed to Mesotech’s AWOS Live cloud platform, bringing up-to-the-second weather data from KELK to computers and mobile devices worldwide.

The Elk City Region Business Airport is a city-owned public-use airport located one mile northeast of the central business district of Elk City. The airport has one paved asphalt runway and covers 364 acres at an elevation of 2,013 feet above mean sea level. The runway is identified as 17/35 and is 5,399 x 75 feet (1,646 x 23 meters). The airport averages 22 flight operations a day and houses 31 aircraft including a helicopter. With a newly updated facility and some of the most competitive fuel prices in the area, the Elk City Regional Business Airport offers an individualized quality service. The new Mesotech AWOS system will support the existing general aviation operations at the airport and support.
