Paxinos, Pennsylvania (October 19, 2022) – Mesotech upgraded and commissioned an Airport Weather Advisor® AWOS-3P Automated Weather Observing System (AWOS) at Northumberland County Airport (KN79) in Paxinos, Pennsylvania on October 19, 2022. Northumberland recently had an AWOS-2 installed by Mesotech and decided to upgrade their system to collect additional weather data including sky condition (ceiling) and precipitation type. The system is now also capable of reporting data to the greater weather and aviation communities through a connection to the National Airspace Data Interchange Network (NADIN).
Airport Weather Advisor® is the flagship product of Mesotech International, Inc., a Sacramento, California based manufacturer of meteorological instrumentation systems. The upgraded AWOS supports aviation safety by providing automatic, up-to-the-minute weather reports to pilots via radio, telephone, or the internet, and is monitored remotely by Mesotech’s support staff to ensure the system operates properly year-round.

Mesotech AWOS are easily customizable and upgradeable to fit an airport’s changing needs and demands. The upgrade was completed in one day and commissioned by the FAA the following day. The Airport Weather Advisor® system initially installed at KN79 earlier in 2022 replaced and re-used infrastructure from an obsolete NEXWOS system. The airport saved tens of thousands of dollars by re-using the existing infrastructure with Mesotech’s modular AWOS.
The airport’s new AWOS also makes weather data available to the public through Mesotech’s cloud-based AWOS Live weather platform. AWOS Live allows anyone with an internet connected computer or mobile device to view live streaming weather data from the airport.
Northumberland County is a proud community with a history as old as the founding of America. Visitors to the area can still visit many of the historic sites such as the Hunter House Museum, Fort Augusta, or the Sunbury Airport which is built on an island between Sunbury and Northumberland in the 1920s to assist in the delivery of air mail, to name a few. The county also has beautiful parks for outdoor recreation and hiking including the Milton State Park and the Shikellamy State Park which overlooks the Susquehanna River and Mariana. All of this makes Northumberland County a beautiful place to stop and breathe freely, taking in the history of the country.
Northumberland County Airport is a small general aviation airport centrally located between Shamokin and Elysburg in Paxinos Pennsylvania. The airport has one paved asphalt runway and sits at an elevation of 880 feet above mean sea level and averages 63 operations a day. The asphalt runway is identified as 8/26 and measures 3297 x 75 feet (1005 x 23 meters).
